These terms govern the free tool at mlc-contract-check.7short1long.com and the Seafarer Contract Check mobile app. The 7SHORT1LONG Terms of Service apply to the tool as a Service; where these terms are more specific, they apply in addition.
What this service is
The MLC Contract Check is a free tool provided by 7SHORT1LONG LLC. It reads the wording of a seafarer employment agreement you submit and returns an automated, color-coded informational review against the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended, ITF benchmarks and verified flag-state facts. The reading is performed by an AI language model. How it works is documented on the Methodology & Sources page.
What this service is not
It is not legal advice. Using the tool creates no attorney-client, advisory or other professional relationship. A report is an automated reading of document wording. It can be incomplete or wrong: AI systems misread text, and a contract can be affected by documents the tool never sees (collective agreements, side letters, national law). Before you sign, refuse to sign, resign, file a complaint or take any other decision, verify the findings with the flag-state administration, the ITF, your union or a qualified maritime lawyer.
A report is also never a statement about any company, manning agent or shipowner. Findings describe contract wording, nothing else.
Your responsibilities
- Submit only documents you are entitled to submit: your own contract, or one you have permission to check.
- Do not submit unlawful content or content that infringes the rights of others.
- Do not abuse the service: no automated mass submissions, no attempts to circumvent rate limits, probe, overload or reverse engineer the service.
- The tool is intended for seafarers and people helping them. Commercial resale of reports is not permitted.
Your document and your report
Your document is transmitted encrypted, processed once for the analysis, and not stored on our servers; document content is never logged. Your report exists only where you keep it: in your browser, or in the app's encrypted storage on your device. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Availability and changes
The tool is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We may change, suspend or discontinue it, or any part of it (including supported flag states and the mobile app), at any time without notice. In the app, the free check is funded by ads; ad delivery is subject to Google's own terms.
Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, 7SHORT1LONG LLC is not liable for decisions made, or not made, in reliance on a report, nor for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the tool. The warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability in the 7SHORT1LONG Terms of Service apply. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence (including in the EU and UK) remain unaffected.
Governing law
As set out in the 7SHORT1LONG Terms of Service: the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, except that consumers in the EU or UK retain the protection of the mandatory provisions and courts of their country of residence.
